Split system, multi-room or heat pump? Here is how the choice affects the install price and your electricity bill.
Most Sussex homes we fit air conditioning into end up with a wall-mounted split system: one outdoor condenser, one indoor unit, and a small pipe run between them. It is the cheapest route and the quickest to install, usually a single day per room.
A multi-split shares one outdoor unit across two, three or four rooms. It costs more up front but keeps the outside of the house tidy and is far cheaper than fitting several separate systems later on.
Running costs surprise people in a good way. Modern inverter units are three to four times more efficient than a plug-in heater, and because they run in reverse they heat a room in winter for less than most gas boilers do.
The things that push the price up are long pipe runs, scaffolding for high-level condensers, and electrical work if the consumer unit needs a spare way. We handle the electrics ourselves, which keeps the job to one visit and one invoice.
Every install is F-Gas certificated, pressure tested and vacuumed down before commissioning, then registered so the manufacturer warranty stands.
